AVERA SURGERY RENOVATION

Sioux Falls, SD

DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT:

Interior renovation of approximately 50,000 square feet of existing ICU, surgical space, and ambulatory care on the second floor of the Avera McKennan Hospital to create a new surgery and GI area.
Project includes 18 operating rooms, 34 pre/post/pacu beds, 3 GI procedures, ERCP, MRI, and staff support spaces.

MAJOR CHALLENGE:

This project was broken into four major phases to keep the existing OR rooms in each phase operational. Working in this project and allowing mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems to remain operational for future/existing phases caused some work flow challenges for all trades to keep existing systems functional in a construction environment, along with working with hospital staff schedules and patient rooms to tie into systems that involved renovation work in rooms on floors above and below the second floor renovation work space.
