MINNEHAHA COUNTY JAIL ADDITION

Sioux Falls, SD

DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT:

The Minnehaha County Jail project consists of a vertical expansion of the existing inmate dormitory building and a 130,000 square-foot addition off the east side of the building.
The new addition, made up of two floors, will house several new departments including intake, 24/7 program, jail administration offices, judicial support, additional cell blocks, a medical clinic and more.
The addition and vertical expansion will collectively add 300 beds to the facility.

MAJOR CHALLENGE:

Due to security reasons, we were unable to access the fifth floor vertical expansion from the interior of the building. Along with presenting a logistical challenge in moving material to the area, this made for many long walks up the scaffold stair tower this winter for our crews. Fortunately, they were very efficient in their use of trips and our work was safely completed in the very high areas without issue.
